Piotr’s Blog – Christmas Greetings
Christmas will soon be upon us. It is a busy time of year in the run up to the big day. There’s a great deal going on ranging from parties, bazaars, panto performances and activities arranged.
At Foxburrow Grange, our specialist nursing and dementia care home in Colchester, Christmas celebrations have been in full swing for days! The bazaar on the 10th December was a highlight of the year. So many people came together from the local community to make it an even better event than last year and raised over £1300 for the residents’ activities fund!
There have been many activities throughout December at our services, a perfect lead into Christmas Day itself, which for many is a time for spending precious moments with our loved ones, relaxing and having fun.
This isn’t always possible however, and health and social care staff – as in many different industries – will be working over Christmas and the New Year to provide support to those in need.
Here at Outlook Care a large group of our fantastic staff will be working, helping people we support enjoy this special time of year with their families or friends. Where that is not possible, our staff will provide a family atmosphere that delivers love and comfort that people who are vulnerable deserve. So a huge thank you from me and the Board of Trustees at Outlook Care, to all our staff working over the festive period.
Our Board have been busy lately. Every year in November the Board of Outlook Care and the Executive Management Team, meet for a full day to review how Outlook Care has performed in the past 12 months against the targets set out in our Business Plan.
I am delighted to report that Outlook Care is on course to achieve the objectives we set ourselves this time last year.
As well as making strategic decisions that affect every aspect of the business, our Board members are keen to be in touch with all levels of the organisation and have good relationships with staff. They wanted to share more about themselves and what’s important to them. Each Board member has completed a ‘One Page Profile’ (located in our Resource Library) and each contains work and life experiences but also a little personal information too to find out a little about the people behind their jobs!
The Board and everyone at Outlook Care were delighted that once again, this year, as per previous years we were recognised nationally for awards celebrating excellence across the care sector.
Royal Greenwich Short Breaks, which offers individual short breaks for people with learning disabilities, as well as support services in the home and community, was shortlisted in the Care Team Award category.
Three of Outlook Care’s employees were also shortlisted for awards:
Jane Marriot, team leader at Outlook Care’s support living service was shortlisted for the Frontline Leaders award; Tina Jakobs, a support worker at Royal Greenwich Short Breaks Service, was shortlisted for the Care Home Worker award; and Patrick Bond, a support worker in Leyton, was shortlisted for the Care Newcomer Award (Patrick was also nominated for the Carer Award at the National Care Awards).
While none of the entries resulted in an outright win, it’s a fantastic achievement to be shortlisted for multiple awards for such prestigious awards ceremonies. We’re always very proud of the hard work, professional and dedication of our staff, and it is wonderful they have received such recognition.
I would like to wish you and your family a very happy and peaceful Christmas.
All the very best.
