Being a key worker through Ramadan during COVID-19

Aisha shares her thoughts on being a key worker during Ramadan through the pandemic of coronavirus.

“Ramadan is a very important time in the Islamic calendar and Muslims all over the world take part.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims don’t eat or drink between dawn and sunset. We keep the faith in Islam whilst still working through this pandemic of the Coronavirus, where so many people around the world are affected and many have lost loved ones.

I am a key worker and fast in the holy month of Ramadan, whilst still providing support to those customers in my place of work.

During Ramadan, we break our fasts by joining our loved ones. We pray and eat together. This month is a perfect reminder of how much we need our friends and family and with this in mind, we know how important it is for the people we support to keep in touch with their loved ones. We support our customers with daily activities, including indoor and outdoor activities and help them keep in touch with family via Facetime, WhatsApp and telephone, all of which they really enjoy.

We support the NHS and all our key workers by making sure that we join in the clap every Thursday at 3pm (internally) and at 8pm, which feels so nice and as a key worker I feel appreciated by this ❤️.

It is also important that we have positive mind sets and understanding in this time of crisis and during Ramadan.  As I fast it is important that I stay calm, positive and busy, making sure I give the best support to all our customers which also helps me get through the day.

I am looking forward to the day when we can go back to how things were, ie going back to college, work, meeting friends, family clubs etc that we all really like to do.

I want to share my experience of Ramadan with you all but also to demonstrate that we continue to care and support those in our services.”

Thank you Aisha!
