Learning disability supported living service in Greenwich

Our learning disability service in Greenwich has been remodelled and we are delighted to now offer a supported living service to four people with learning disabilities as well as the existing respite support for four additional guests.

The service is based in a purpose-built property in SE10 and is close to local amenities and ideally placed to take advantage of the leisure and cultural activities offered on the North Greenwich peninsula and in historic central Greenwich.

We are thrilled to welcome four new customers, who are settling in well, to the new supported living service.  The customers had lived in previous accommodation for over 10 years and we were mindful that this could cause high levels of anxiety however with sensitive support, family involvement and positive joint working with social services who managed the previous home all customers have settled really well and appear happy and content.

Merging two staff teams from different organisations for a transition period has been key so customers could get used to their new environment with familiar faces who could support new team to learn – positive joint working.

Family visits have also been very important – families have regularly visited their relatives since they moved in and have commented on how well their loved ones have settled in and the commitment of both teams.

Positive training has also been key – diabetic nurse specialist and stoma nurse have been providing bespoke training for the team alongside work with the hospital liaison nurse and nurse team from Community Learning Disability Team.

We are excited for this service and its new customers and we wish them a very happy time in their new home.
