Learning Disability Week 2012
Spotlight on Learning Disabilities
Learning Disability Week is a week of national campaigning and awareness raising run by Mencap. Here at Outlook Care every week is Learning Disability Week as we use our experience to support people with individual needs to live the lives they choose.
People we support have fed back to us their experiences of increased control and independence over the way they choose to live their lives. 3 recent stories are shared below:
Seven of our residential care homes have transformed to supported living over the past year, fundamentally changing the relationships between tenants, their landlords and Outlook Care, their support provider. The tenants at two services in Romford that have changed are so positive about their new lifestyle.
We are so excited to hear that the artwork of one of the people we support in Leytonstone has been accepted for display at Tate Modern in June. What a fantastic achievement!
Learning Disability Week involves people young and old and the links with family, friends and the community are so important. We have just started to deliver support and care services to young people with learning disabilities who are in the process of transition from children’s to adult’s services. A pilot service for two brothers, has commenced in our Romford respite service and we worked closely with each brother, their family, school and social worker. The brothers have settled in well and their Mum is pleased with how well her sons are doing.
