Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
What does Positive Behaviour Support mean to our customers and families who use our services at Outlook care ?
Positive Behaviour Support is something that we practice and work with every day. PBS is used to improve the quality of a customer’s life and the quality of life around them. To our staff teams, the delivery and consistent use of Positive Behaviour Support means that our customers get the right support at the right time .
At Outlook Care we ensure that the support delivered to our customers is personalised to each person is treated and supported as the person they are, we encourage consistency in the delivery of care and support , a productive PBS model ensures that staff teams work consistently using the same approach . Our customers and their representatives are involved from the assessment process and a PBS plan will be agreed where need prior to admission , although this will evolve during the persons weeks and months following admission .
A Positive behaviour Plan will support the customer to be engaged in activities and at a level that is meaningful to them , this should allow for our customers to be part of their community and feel safe and secure with the consistent PBS approach used by our staff teams .
We will endeavour to have functional assessments completed for those customers that need them , this means that our teams work closely with other professionals , we understand that every behaviour needs to be understood and we use the SEAT approach .

Our teams use a proactive approach , this enable the teams to prevent or reduce triggers and other events that will result in behaviours of concern , we will ensure that interventions will help support the customer at all times , we will have environments that will be able to meet the customers needs and we will always prioritise coping strategies for the customer , these will be the consistent approach used during periods when the customer feels anxious or when staff identify periods where triggers are evident. Our staff teams will ensure that there are noted reactive strategies to help people keep safe when needed. Any restrictions deemed necessary during periods where behaviours of concern are triggered would be kept under continual review and the least restrictive approach would always be taken. Support would be based on assessed need and may utilise a range of evidence-based procedures that we know will keep all involved safe.
We continually review and analyse all data relating to Incident reports made , We will learn from these incidents and the information taken from our ongoing analysis will allow for the teams to review care and support plans , including PBS plans used but also to ensure the outcomes for our customers are improved and their quality of life maintained at all times whilst ensuring that other customers and staff within our services are also safe and secure within their living environments..
